What role does a HR Business Partner (“HRBP”) play?

Some organizations need a HR Business Partner (“HRBP”) to work with their line managers and executive partners including related staff groups to build the capacity of their human resources division. The HRBP must set and strategically drive the HR plan in terms of people management for employees in the organization to create good results to work with in the long term.

The HRBP also has to motivate and encourage employees at all levels to focus their strategies to achieve success. This means that the HRBP has to be someone who has good interpersonal skills to build good relationships in working with all levels. Also the HRBP needs to create activities and ensure cooperation from the managers and all executive levels by following HR guidelines to successfully achieve the organization’s goals. Moreover, the HRBP has to analyze employee data and predict potential threats that may occur from the information obtained to prevent problems that may arise in the future.

The important roles of the HRBP are as follows:

  • Understand company’s strategy annually and must start planning for people management to be in line with the company’s business as well as to keep track of the company’s strategy in the future.
  • Recruit and select employees according to company’s strategic plan.
  • Plan to build employee engagement and how to build good relationships and motivate people in the organization such as leaders, managers, employees, etc. to work together smoothly.
  • Provide practical advice in terms of people management structure and HRM systems to employees and be a center of people management in the organization with ability to analyze and forecast potential problems that may occur in the future.

In summary the HRBP for an organization must be someone who understands the strategic plan of the organization and must also be able to think further ahead about the people management system. The HRBP must also have a thorough knowledge of an organization’s business, business plans, strategic planning including employees in various fields. The attributes covered in this article can successfully drive the business of an organization positively in the long term.
